There are 5000 patients a year but not enough psychiatrists are available here at St. Giles Hospital, she said the increase in number of patients demanded the development of new psychiatrist. She added this was mainly common for patients from the rural area.
Just imagine 5000 patients are admitted every year this is an alarming rate, we ask ourselves why is this happening?, my assumption is maybe part of the reason is because of the rising cost of living, people cannot think straight, they bottle up what they go through everyday and do not share it to someone they can trust, for fear of being ridiculed.
A man was reported killing his young family last week in Vatuwaqa, and is in a stable condition at the CWM hospital, nobody knows the reason, nobody can answer the Y question precisely but people can gather that certain individuals can go to that extent when they cannot cope with life.
The weekend started on a tragic note for a family of four after three members were hacked to death early yesterday, the 32 year old truck driver is admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the CWM hospital.
Landlord and neighbour Rohit Narayan said the man had returned from work early on Friday afternoon and joined the neighbours for a kava session. We were drinking kava with him at my home and then I had to leave because I drive a taxi Mr. Narayan said. The Land lord said that around midnight, his wife called him and asked him to call the police they thought the couple was fighting in their home, and maybe that was the time when he was hacking them to death, by the time they entered the house with the police it was too late, the wife and children were already dead.
My resolution to these kind of situation is to let it out, share your problem to someone you can trust don't bottle it up, because there are solutions to every problem that we face in this world.
If you don't have a friend to confide to in this world remember there is a God, go to your room and pray, even if you don't have time for that look up to heaven when you're travelling in a bus or car and get connected to Him, you don't have to move your lips so that the person sitting next to you will think that you're talking to yourself no, just talk to Him in your heart and mind, get connected.
The Bible psalmist says that the sacrifices to God are a broken and contrite spirit, so I encourage you today my friend, share your problems and don't bottle it up, cry it out to a friend or our God.
Let us revert back to a song sung by Black eyed Peas titled 'Where is the Love' , love conquers all, leaders of this beautiful country love your people and do what is truly democratic for the people of Fiji.
I commend your adivce on how to resolve issues and not to keep them inside. However, most cases of being admitted to St Giles are also as a result of drug abuse or being traumatised by violent incidents. Another solution that could be taken up would be providing awareness programmes with regards to avoiding stress and depression around the country espcially in rural areas. However, the alarming rate of 5000 patients per year is a perfect indication that new facilities and hospitals dealing with mental health issues is needed. When will we wake up and start moving to treat those who need help and help avoid others from getting into such situations?
ReplyDeleteIt is really sad about the wife and kids but such things indeed happen in life without any knowing about the cause. The advice you have given here will work because we have used them many times during marital problems and family problems. But we also have to bear in mind that there are some people who coul'd not share their thoughts on what is troubling them until they have had enough and that's when a major incident happen. It is the government responsibility to see that everyone has a good chance of living a good life by offering more jobs and creating programmes that residents even those who have not gone to university can get an income from their talents and skills. There are lot of things that can be done such as setting up a small business loaning scheme where uneemployed people can borrow to start a small business. On the other hand, pastors and elderly deacons should also play a part in encoraging members of their churches to love and care for one another instead of people always committing funds to the church and communal activities while members get poorer and poorer.

ReplyDeleteIt's really shocking that 5000 patients are admitted every year.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the advice Alice gave because it is very important to speak whats in your heart so that your family or friends know what is happening around you or what is bothering you. Perhaps they could help you out. And if you dont want to tell your loved ones then you should try to get some kind of help ans atleast try to see a counsellor becuse there is always a solution to every problem that we face in life.
Praying always helps, we should have faith, think positive and never give up no matter how diffcult things can get.
Thankyou everyone out there for reading and commenting on my blog,God Bless!
